We watch in astonishment bordering on horror as she turns around and heads back to the barn.
Later we found out that there were delays in getting the tanker to the rendesvous point. With only enough fuel to make it to the tanker and back, a launch at this time is hopeless. Figuring the launch will be delayed until the next day, we meet up with the team from Worldwide Aircraft Recovery disassembling 968 for her trip to the Virginia Aviation Museum.
After lunch we drove back to the flight office to find out when the next launch was scheduled. On the way there we saw the SR-71 sitting on the ramp with both engines running and the Anti-Collision Beacon flashing!! We drove as fast as the law would allow (this is an Air Force base, don't forget), stopping back by the WWAR crew.
