A good view showing just how close to the lakebed the site is.

With the entire fuselage supported on two flatbed tractor-trailers, the bolts securing the forward and aft fuselage sections are removed, and the lead truck slowly drives foward, separating the halves.  Lockheed designed the aircraft to be separated and transported this way going back to the original A-12 design, and its requirement to be built in Burbank but flown from Nevada.
