925 spent the early part of her existance mounted upside down on a pole at Groom Dry Lake, used to study the A-12's radar signature - Lockheed photo via Tony Landis

In 1991, 925 was dismantled and transported from Palmdale, CA, to Corpus Christi, TX, where she was put on a barge and sailed to New York City, to be put on display at the USS Intrepid Museum.  Scott Koen provided the following photos and memories of the journey.

This is me on the trailer with 925, we chose the FWD jacking point and the main landing gear as the contact points for the trip.  Our motor home is in the background, we used it as our office-motel-workshop during the disassembly.  We separated 925 into 5 pieces for the trip.  Location is Palmdale CA. - photo and caption courtesy of Scott Koen

This is 925 on the trailer at the California Arizona border.  The transport company we chose was Jake's Crane and Rigging out of Las Vegas. - photo and caption courtesy of Scott Koen

Don Francis and I are beside 925 here.  The tractor had just reconnected after fueling up, he couldn't just pull into a truck stop with this load.  Location is I- 10 in Arizona. - photo and caption courtesy of Scott Koen

This is our procession during the Arizona leg.  We were limited to 40 mph due to safety concerns.  The load was 22 ft. wide by 101 ft. long. - photo and caption courtesy of Scott Koen
