55-3135

SR-71A 61-7980 (a.k.a. NASA 844) refuels from KC-135 #55-3135 during the first LASRE flight on October 31, 1997.  The blackbird was flown by NASA crew Ed Schneider and Bob Meyer.  Take a good look, this is probably the only E-spec KC-135 that ever refueled a blackbird; all the Q-models went straight from the A-spec engines to the CFM-56 engines when they were upgraded to R/T-spec. - NASA Photo by Lori Losey

55-3135 spent the majority of her career as an Air Force test platform. One of the very few blackbird-refueling tankers no longer flying, she was retired and sent to the AMARC boneyard at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on September 28, 2004.
