Eight year old Joey Fabus and his family were invited to the 171st Air Refueling Wing located near Pittsburgh Pa. for Joey to be Commander for a day, July 17, 2014. Joey has Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, an inoperable tumor that grows in the middle of the brainstem; his condition is terminal. Joey was sworn in as commander of the 171st from the Mission Support Group Commander Colonel Mark Goodwill. He then received his flight suit, hat, and pilot wings. From there, Joey toured the security forces section where he got to see, hands on, the different weapons the 171st uses. Joey was then given an intelligence briefing and given a scenario where he had to make a command decision. He then got a tour of KC-135 R/T Stratotanker #59-1523. The day ended when Joey received a medal for his bravery from 171st Maintenance Group Commander Colonel Thomas Hess. Joey's parents, Cindy and Dave, were awarded a center of influence medal. It has always been a dream of Joey's to be in the Military. - US ANG photo by Maj Karen Bogden
